The Importance of Deep Cleaning

Everyone who lives in home, regardless of its size, knows how challenging it can be to keep that home tidy and clean. Today’s busy schedules certainly don’t help the matter, meaning you are often left with clutter, disarray, dust, dirt, and grime. And within that environment, how are you and your family going to be healthy and productive? Of course, there isn’t just everyday cleaning to consider, but also the need to routinely deep clean your home to maintain the value of what is likely your largest investment. Your home is the hub of your family’s life and, as such, it needs the proper care and maintenance. The team at Signature Maids have compiled a list of areas that require periodic deep cleaning for your convenience.

Carpets, Air Ducts, and Filters

On top of vacuuming your home’s carpets often, you need to have them professionally cleaned annually. Doing so, not only extends the life of your carpets, but keeps them looking and smelling their best throughout the year.  The next time you schedule your annual carpet cleaning is also a great time to schedule professional air duct cleaning. While duct cleaning only needs to happen every three or so years, remember dirty ducts spread the dust, pet dander, and other contaminants throughout your home and reduce your HVAC system’s efficiency. Your HVAC system keeps air flowing through your home, and the filters within are designed to remove dust, debris, dander, and allergens from that air. Changing to fresh new filters every two to four months is essential to keeping the indoor air clean, as well as your home.

Bathrooms and Kitchens

Your bathrooms and kitchens are some of the most heavily trafficked rooms in your home, and as such, they may need deep cleaning more often than other areas. In both areas, bacteria and other germs can thrive, which means keeping them clean is very important. While your cleaning the kitchen and bathroom with your favorite anti-bacterial cleaners, be sure to give a little attention to the drains to ensure they are running freely. Unclogging drains on a regular basis will help you avoid big problems down the road.

In the kitchen, you’ll want to focus on your appliances, which need regular cleaning to keep working efficiently for a long time. Start with the dishwasher, where every three months you should clean the filter and food trap. Next up is the oven, which needs to be kept free of spills and grease. Many ovens offer self-cleaning options which make the job easier for you. Don’t forget to clean your hood vent (if you have one) twice a year. Clean in and around your refrigerator, changing the air and water filters, as well as cleaning condenser coils and the refrigerator gasket.

In the laundry room, whether it is near the bathroom or kitchen, wash the washing machine, quarterly, and clean the dryer exhaust vent, annually.

Windows

You’ll want to clean your windows at regular intervals, both inside and outside. Keeping your windows clean is good practice because it helps maintain your home’s energy efficiency and helps windows and their seals to last much longer. Plus, clean windows just make your home look better, not to mention cleaner! If you notice condensation or an unusual milky appearance, it may be time to call on the experts for an inspection to insure there are no broken seals that need to be addressed.
